The Rhode Island Party Primary election is scheduled for Wednesday, September 9, 2026
Note that the primary is on a Wednesday, not a Tuesday. The reason for this change is Labor Day. In 2026, the traditional Tuesday primary would have fallen on September 8, the day immediately following Labor Day. Rhode Island election officials expressed concerns about not having enough time to prepare more than 400 polling places over the holiday weekend. Consequently, the General Assembly approved moving the primary one day later to Wednesday, and the Governor signed the bill.
Last day to request absentee ballot to vote in the primary is August 19
